Previously, Rick Barry played college and professional golf, run and operated 5 golf courses simultaneously, owned and run a golf course for 7 years, and taught in The Sea Pines for over 20 years. For the past eight years he has been apart of the “Top 100 Golf Instructors of America”.
His days revolve around setting up and reviewing lessons for clients from 8am- 6pm, 6 days a week. This includes making sure that clinics, private lessons, and private groups are all available. Rick is very aware and also flattered that clients plan vacation around coming to The Sea Pines Resort, to have a golf lesson; therefore he makes it as worthwhile as possible for them.
Mr. Barry understands that “each person has their own body style, make-up and design, I try to make the mechanics fit the golfer as best they can, keeping in mind, all they have to do is turn the body, and lift the club. I don’t like the intimidation factor or badgering, and believe the results should be immediate. The student should feel the ball striking improves with very little practice and they should have a very clear thought as to how they want to practice. Each student is individually taped from two different perspectives, in order to benefit the person, so that they may see the benefits that they may see first hand their faults as well as strengths.”
Over the next six months “we will take the golf swing down into the smallest parts, please forgive me for being mechanical, but in order to see the simplicity of what may happen, you need to follow the check points along the way of what we are going to give you. We will look at the swing from halfway back, or end or backswing, halfway back down to the ball on the downswing, and the very critical area, the impact, and the follow through. We will cover these, from two perspectives, looking down the fairway, and looking face on to the golfer, with close up cut away of feet, knees, hips, posture and grips.”
